I am a designer, maker and restorer of lampshades traditional and contemporary. I have a City and Guilds in Soft Furnishings and for a short time when my children were young I made curtains, blinds and cushions and the occasional lampshade. Now I specialise purely in lampshades as I get a great deal of satisfaction from making them.
The name Wyre and Gimble is a nod to the wire frames and the gimbals on the frames (the part that the bulb sits in) and to a line in a favourite childhood poem Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll which has nothing whatsoever to do with lampshades but it helped me arrive at a quirky and unique name!
I get regular commissions from local interior designers as well as my own private clients. My work is of the highest standard and is handmade by myself using both traditional and modern techniques.
I liaise closely with my clients to produce shades to their exact requirements, and I am happy to use most fabrics apart from upholstery grade as they are usually too heavy and stiff for a lampshade.
I am hoping to grow my business very soon with an online shop of readymade shades, so watch this space!
