Year Up provides skills training and internships to empower young adults to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education.
Year Up is a national nonprofit organization seeking to close the Opportunity Divide by providing urban young adults with the skills, experience, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education.
In the future, every urban young adult will have access to the education, experiences, and guidance required to realize his or her true potential.
Year Up National Capital Region launched in February 2006. We remain overwhelmed and thankful for the warm welcome and support we continue to receive from corporate and community partners. Over 33,000 young adults in the National Capital Region do not have access to livable wage careers or higher education. Each of our classes has proven that these young adults are capable of adding immediate value to local companies, and we strive to continue that legacy by closing the Opportunity Divide in our nation's capital.
Year Up is a one-year, intensive training program that provides urban young adults, aged 18-24, with a combination of hands-on skill development, college credits, and corporate internships.
During the first six months of the program, students focus on skill mastery in Desktop Support/IT Help or Investment Operations. Instructors place equal emphasis on developing professional skills required in today’s workforce, such as effective communication, leadership, accountability, and teamwork.
During the latter six months of the program, students are placed in internships with local partner companies.
Participants receive a stipend throughout the one-year, full-time educational program.
We find our success in our graduates by enabling them to pursue full-time employment and higher education. Year Up aims to provide opportunities for urban young adults to reach their true potential by providing them with a hand up—and we have achieved excellent results to date.
