|About||Unique mother/daughter partnership. Yola and Daria fuse tradition art form with modern design. Under the graphic design influences of Daria, Yola's Polish 'Wycinanki' (hand cut paper art) is transformed.|
A mutual love of architecture inspired our artistic collaboration. For us architecture captures the magic and richness of place, culture, people and time. It evokes intrigue in to stories behind the facade, personal memories of childhood, our journey, homeland and home.
"Wycinanki" pronounced Vee-chee-non-kee is the Polish word for 'paper-cut design’, usually featuring people, plants, animals and birds. Jola has extended these boundaries to include architecture, while Sam’s design style influences the composition structure and stylization adding a new characteristic to a traditional art form.
My little girls’ (Pollyanna and Eliza-Jane) love of storytelling inspired us to reinterpret fairy-tales. In contrast to our architecture work, fairy-tales organic form allows greater creative freedom and opportunity to incorporate traditional ornamental design of "Wycinanki". Thoughts of tradition, motherland and nostalgic memories of our own childhood inspired our style.
We hope our art triggers sentimental reflection, conversation and storytelling. We invite and encourage storytelling with hope to unlock and create memories.
