Established in 1954, the Yorkshire Dales National Park has outstanding scenery, a range of wildlife habitats and a rich cultural heritage. It’s a special place covering 1,762 square kilometres and is located in the North of England.
The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority exists:
- to conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and
- to promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of its special qualities by the public.
In pursuing these two purposes the Authority also has a duty to seek to foster the economic and social well-being of local communities.
