Welcome to Youth in Planning!
Youth in Planning is an educational program developed by the Young Planners Group. YIP is designed to introduce youth to the different “planks” of planning and enhance students critical reading, writing, math and public speaking skills. The program focuses on developing a plan for a local project, site, or issue and engages students in a series of activities guided by professional planners.
What makes YIP work:
Students are given real projects to work on that are taking place within their communities.
Students learn from professionals who work with student teams in each class - professionals literally become part of the student teams
The transfer of knowledge is hands on, and highly applicable to real work settings.
Students are encouraged to develop their ideas and concepts of their cities.
Student learn real job skills, and produce quality work that can be used for college applications, portfolios, and resumes.
Students learn how to apply leadership skills by becoming active in their communities.
