Youth Music Preservation and Promotion Association cover
Mission The mission of the YMPPA is to offer underserved, minority and at-risk youth free access to advanced levels of performance of classical music, to share their talent locally and abroad and foster the expectation of creative excellence as a birthright and a pathway to social integration and personal success.
Description In 2004, its inaugural year, YMPPA brought the performance of an International Youth Symphony Orchestra to Loudoun County. This nearly 200-member orchestra, created at the 1st International Gathering of Youth Orchestras in Leesburg, gathered young musicians from five countries, and offered all participants (a third of which were young American musicians) an opportunity to perform under the baton of renowned conductors, while they shared their musical abilities and experiences. The following year, the 2nd International Gathering of Youth Orchestras in Leesburg once more united young musicians from around the world, this time from ten different countries, and brought forth a concert by the orchestra at the Organization of American States.
Awards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7nth Gathering of Youth Orchestras.
Founded in Leesburg, Virginia, in December 2003
