Doncaster Museum & Art Gallery was opened in 1964. Designed by the council architects, it replaced the exisiting Beechfield House Musuem which had been home to the collections of Doncaster Museum Service since 1910.
The ground floor gallery at Doncaster Museum & Art Gallery houses the award winning 'By River and Road' display which tells the history of Doncaster through displays of social history, archaelolgy, natural history and decorative arts, taking the visitor on a journey from the Ice Age to the present day. The first floor galleries are devoted to the Fine and Decorative Art collections, while also showing a changing programme of temporary exhibitions.
Cusworth Hall has been described as the ‘jewel’ in Doncaster’s crown. The beautiful grade 1 listed building is set in acres of historic parkland with lakes, plantations and pleasure ground with dramatic views across the town. The site, which was extensively restored between 2003-2007, invites visitors to experience a wealth of architecture, heritage, landscape history, wildlife and exhibitions, events and activities.
Both sites offer a range of school workshops as well as ‘guide’ workbooks that allow teachers to lead their class on visits across the sites.
