Fight Hunger Foundation works towards prevention, detection and treatment of under nutrition. The Foundation tackles the root causes of malnutrition and its effects, focusing on both crisis handling, as well as sustainability after the crisis is averted. This is done by integrating programmes locally and nationally, promoting a community based approach, and supporting training and scientific research.
Malnutrition is a silent emergency. It is claiming sufferings for millions and death for many of children less than 5 years of age. The most affected are children in poor and marginal communities such as Schedule Caste, Schedule Tribe and Other Backward Classes. High levels of poverty, poor sanitation and hygiene practices, sub optimal infant and young child feeding practices, low social status of women and marginalization and poor care for women are among the known causes.
Fight Hunger Foundation advocates for community based approaches for the management of acute malnutrition, and pilot-tests various models of community management of acute malnutrition in partnership with the government and/or local organizations.
In collaboration with academic and research institutions, Fight Hunger Foundation undertakes studies to explore and test local food products for efficacy, and their effectiveness at a program level.
