Take part in a 3-day workshop at CoSM, exploring the vast territories of producing and performing electronic music with Ableton Live. The class will be hosted by Ableton producer and guitarist/ educator Derek VanScoten, aka Cloudchord (formerly know as D.V.S*).

Beginner to advanced levels are welcome.

Topics producing include:
-Approaches and philosophies of various electronic styles
– understanding eq and compression
-Recording/ Creating your own sounds and samples

-Midi controllers and their uses
-Performing w/ electronic music
-The art of remixing
-Scoring to video

-Understanding the sonic and harmonic spectrums

-Daily practices for cultivating creativity

-The art of live looping

-Lesson formats will vary between group activity and one-on-one attention with Derek and/or workshop assistant.

Material requirements: Ableton Intro or higher installed on a CPU, headphones. Midi controller is helpful but not required.

*Class comes with a Flash drive containing of lesson materials, presets, samples, templates and more*

Over the course of 3 days, in chronological order, we will cover all aspects of producing: from the inception of a single idea, to recording, arranging, mixing, mastering, and performing it live.


Cloudchord brings a refreshing vision of live guitar to atmospheric dance music.

As an educator, he has presented at Ableton events in NYC, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, Denver, and Austin. He was also a presenter at NAMM in Los Angeles, for the world premiere of the Ableton Push in 2013.

As a producer, official remixes include Of Monsters and Men, Magic Giant, SunSquabi, Savoy, Big Gigantic, and Autograf. As a solo performer, festivals include Envision, Euphoria, Middlelands and Camp Bisco. As a diverse guitarist, collaborations includes Random Rab, Emancipator, Cherub, and Space Jesus, to name a few.

Since the beginning of 2016, Cloudchord has reached #1 on the Hype Machine’s popular charts 6 times. His debut album “Imprint,” is a tropical meets future bass instrumental affair, out on Gravitas Recordings.
