|Mission||GIAN aims at sustaining the spirit of innovation, encouraging experimentation and nurturing creativity at grassroots level of knowledge rich economically poor people by contributing to the creation of a knowledge network that can empower the innovators, stem the erosion of traditional knowledge systems, recognize and augment contemporary innovations, and facilitate diffusion of grassroots green innovations through commercial as well as non-commercial public, private and voluntary channels|
Gujarat Grassroots Innovations Augmentation Network was established in 1997 under the Bombay Public Charitable Act with the support of Government of Gujarat, Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions (SRISTI) and Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA). It is a Honey Bee Network Institution.
GIAN received National Award for Best Technology Business Incubator in 2003 jointly with IIT Madras by the National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, presented by the then President of India Shri A.P.J Abdul Kalam
Our In-situ incubation facility to the innovators along with incubation and acceleration support has been recognised by The Honourable President of India (http://presidentofindia.nic.in/speeches-detail.htm?602)
Governing Board of Gujarat GIAN comprises of eminent representatives from Government of Gujarat, Non-Government Organizations, Directors of Premier Institutes and Grassroots Innovators
It is a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India and a Nodal Institute for Start Ups/Innovation, Govt. of Gujarat .
We have established a design studio GRIDS (GRASSROOTS INNOVATIONS DESIGN STUDIO) at National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad
The World Bank report titled Unleashing India’s Innovation published in the year 2007 highlights the significance of grassroots innovation in India, and GIAN was identified as a major actor engaged in multiple activities like Value addition and experimentation, Commercialization and Dissemination.
