Hornpipe Workshop, 2-3:30

As a tribute to Celine Tubridy, Annette will teach a set of Celine's hornpipe steps which she learned during her childhood in Donegal. The Dan Furey group plan to dance these steps in her memory during the Dance Evening of the Willie Clancy Festival this coming summer.

Solo Mazurka Workshop 3:30-5

A delightful dance, with a common motif throughout. Celine Tubridy was taught this dance during her childhood in Donegal, knowing it as "The Little Dutch Dance". The Dan Furey group has adopted this dance into their repertoire and perform it at all their meetings. The music of the mazurka originated in roughly the 16th century in east-central Poland, and to this day is still heard in Co Donegal, both in music sessions and performed as a 2-hand dance.

Workshops are at:

Shenanigans Arts Space

316 F Street NE Lower Level, Washington DC 20002 (street parking, Union Station metro stop)

Shoes: leather soles or taps preferred

About Annette:

Annette Collins is an experienced and active Step Dance performer and teacher based in Co Armagh, Northern Ireland; working primarily in Ireland and mainland Europe. Annette has a passion for old style steps, learning her craft from Patrick O'Dea, Michael Tubridy, Joe McGuiggan, Brenda O'Callaghan among others. Annette is a member of the Dan Furey Group and the Northern Irish dance group convened by Joe McGuiggan.

Annette works as a dance/music teacher and musician; as well are her weekly dance and music classes she offers step workshops in Ireland and at events across Europe. Annette's enthusiasm for dance was triggered as an adult and her appetite for learning burns brightly. She believes that lifelong learning in any discipline is essential - a highlight of her year is studying with Patrick O'Dea at the Willie Clancy week.

Her workshops are characterised by her creation of a supportive and professional environment; live music from her partner Mark Prescott and by her consistently inclusive and engaging style. In their work together, Annette & Mark are known as "Step with Annette".
