Citizen Science Day is an annual event that honours the achievements of citizens within the field of science. Ranging from indispensable volunteer work and amazing discoveries to inspiring projects, the contributions of citizens to the world of science is a worthy cause for a celebration. Share in the wonder of citizen sciences by visiting the Garden Route Botanical Garden (GRBG) from 08h30 onwards on Saturday, 14 April, where you can get involved in a variety of fantastic Citizen Science Day-inspired activities.

The GRBG will host a full day of workshops run by citizen scientists, academics and environmental practitioners at its Environmental Education Centre. For entrance to each event a donation of R20 per person would appreciated , or alternatively, an R80 contribution will get you entrance to all eight activities. All funds raised will contribute towards the conservation of indigenous floral diversity of the Southern Cape . The programme of interactive talks and tours is as follows (note: times may change due to weather conditions):

08h30 Insect, Reptile and Fungi Identification
10h30 Indigenous Flora of the Southern Cape
12h00 Organic Vegetable Gardening Workshop (learn how to build your own worm farm!)
14h00 Birding in the Gardens
17h30 Frogging the Gardens
19h00 Star Gazing the Southern Cape Skies (talk and interactive tour using the GRBG’s new telescope)

Throughout the day, visitors can also contribute towards the scientific research of Elie Pedarros on the spatial ecology of baboons within the George area.

The talks and tours are suitable for nature enthusiasts of all ages.
