1. How does the early years setting know if children need extra help and what should I do if I think my child may have special educational needs or disabilities?
As a childminder I follow the early years foundation stage (E.Y.F.S). I use daily observations, monitoring and continuous tracking of progress to identify any additional needs.
When children first enter my setting I ask parents/carers to explain to me their child’s individual needs. I then assess them and use this as a starting point for their learning journey.
Each child has a learning journal and using this I produce a termly report which I share with parents and, with parental permission, other settings the child may attend.
A 2-3 year old check is also completed and shared with parents. It gives an overview of the child’s progression and abilities.
I have regular, informal discussions with parents and am available to talk about any concerns they may have about their child’s development and progress.

2. How will early years setting staff support my child?
I work closely with all children in my setting and have regular conversations with parents/carers about each child’s likes/dislikes, progress etc.
I work in conjunction with any professionals that may be involved with a child and follow any advice given by them.
I focus on each child’s strengths and build on these to encourage each child’s development.
The ‘All About Me’ form that parents complete when starting at my setting focuses on the child’s strengths, areas for development, home life, interests and language. This enables me to identify suitable types of activities and any support that is needed.
I support all children in their ‘next steps’, which are identified in the termly report to parents, as well as their general development.
I share information with any other settings that
