The EYE Retreat is a weeklong summer camp for youth with visual impairments. In 2015, we served 51 visually impaired youth from 2 countries and 9 states.
Our mission is to provide an opportunity for youth with visual impairments to experience a glimpse of post secondary outcomes (employment, college, etc) through development of mentoring relationships, real world applications, and identification of available resources.
The EYE Retreat is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The EYE Retreat started in 2009 with 15 students with visual impairments from North Carolina. In 2016, we served 49 visually impaired students from 2 countries (Mexico and U.S.) and six states. Our programming is based on peer mentoring, hands on experiences, and sharing of community resources. Our programming is based on best practices and research in the field of college and career transition. In the coming years, the Board of Directors for the EYE Retreat intends to sponsor additional EYE Retreats around the United States. We also currently sponsor a Goal Ball team in the Raleigh area to support recreational opportunities and socialization. Come play with us or volunteer! The EYE Retreat's staff is 100% visually impaired themselves. The organization is overseen by a Board of Directors. All persons interested may also serve on a committee. We offer programming at no cost or for nominal fees.
