|Misja||SEARCH pursues a mission of providing hope, creating opportunity, and transforming lives of men, women, and children who are trying to break free from the cycle of poverty and homelessness. We bring this mission to life every day by helping our clients obtain permanent housing, increase their income, improve their health, develop their children, and ultimately achieve independence.|
|Opis||Many of our clients require long-term support and a combination of housing, case management, mental and physical health care, all of which they can access through SEARCH and its partner agencies. Taking a client-centered approach, SEARCH professionals “meet people where they are;” we encourage them to take steps toward success without rigid rules or judgment. Case managers receive training and implement an evidence-based practice called Motivational Interviewing to obtain more effective results in helping people change their behaviors. This non-confrontational counseling approach demonstrates respect for the individual and attempts to increase awareness of behavior by helping clients think differently about their actions and considering what can be gained through change.|
In March 2011, SEARCH’s House of Tiny Treasures received accreditation from the National Association of the Education of Young Children. To earn accreditation, programs must comply with national standards of quality regarding teacher-to-student ratios, curriculum, health and safety, and teacher qualifications.
Also in March, 2011, SEARCH was cited in the Houston Chronicle as an example of a local agency providing measured savings to the community. SEARCH’s annual investment of $12,000 in the life of one chronically disabled individual experiencing homelessness will save the community an average of $78,000 in a state hospital stay for 229 days.
In October 2010, SEARCH received the national BoardSource recognition for its transformative governance of the business. This award signifies the Board of Directors’ commitment to the agency’s sustainability and leadership in ending homelessness. These accomplishments were highlighted in the April 2011 edition of BoardSource’s nationally disseminated Leadership Lessons e-magazine.
