Join the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs, Florida Grand Opera and Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ for a very special program that explores the poignant themes of Daniel Catán’s critically acclaimed opera, Florencia en el Amazonas. In “Metamorphosis,” spoken word is set against the vibrant and luminous music of Catán’s work to take us to the interior landscapes of the human spirit.

The first Spanish-language opera commissioned by a major U.S. opera company (Houston Grand Opera, 1996), Catán’s magical realist masterpiece, invites us to reflect deeply on the human condition – the joys and sorrows of life, our inextricable connection to the natural world and its forces, the mutability of existence, the yearning for redemption and the hope for transcendence.

“Metamorphosis” features the glorious voices of Florida Grand Opera Studio Artists and the spoken word of Florida International University scholars. A reception follows the presentation.
