Please join us on April 11 as the Center for Biological Diversity and Friends of the Tampa Bay National Wildlife Refuges team up with The Ale and the Witch to bring you environmental education, conversation and beer!

This month Jason Cowen from the Boyd Hill Nature Preserve will be returning to teach us even more about birds of prey. From eagles and hawks to falcons, owls, and vultures, every bird of prey fills a niche. Each bird has a custom set of adaptations and unique abilities that help them fulfill their role in the environment. Unfortunately, they also face great challenges living in urban areas where things are not so natural. Jason will give an up-close encounter with Boyd Hill’s raptors and discuss even more of these birds’ amazing adaptations, as well as the challenges they face in a steadily urbanizing world.

Jason has volunteered with Birds of Prey at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve for seven years. In that time he has worked with numerous raptors and a variety of species. Jason has a passion for raptors, education, and helping wildlife, all of which come to a head at Boyd Hill where raptors with permanent injuries are trained and used as educational ambassadors. Jason assists in running the Bird of Prey Program, overseeing the birds and numerous volunteers. Jason is the President of the Friends of Boyd Hill Nature Preserve and is also a Director of the St. Petersburg Audubon Society.
