Join us for the opening reception of:
MOVY Drawings + Video By Marguerite Kalhor on Saturday, April 7th 6-9PM
The show is up April 7th until May 27th 2018
"There’s an overused animation trope of the fish getting eaten by a larger one ad infinitum - a nice metaphor for the life cycles of media. Our eyeballs and attention spans shift and warp - it would be interesting to see how an AR hobbyist in 2080 will look at a painting.
The works in MOVY reexamine movie media objects and mannerisms as the fantastic gets pushed into obscurity by the everyday. The show is separated into three sections: the first is 15 gouache paintings of gently warped vhs tapes, the second are large portrait images and a nod to animation cels and the third is a continuous dialogue taking place between two CRT monitors."
Marguerite “Marge” Kalhor went to UC Berkeley (BA) and UC Santa Cruz (MFA) to study media. She sometimes gets to draw props and make fake liquids for movies in Los Angeles.
