A vibrant student body which promotes student democracy, develoment and responsible leadership
To represent the needs of students through promoting the values of INCLUSIVENESS, REPRESENTATION, TRANSPARENCY, INNOVATIVE and practical ways of addressing issues faced by students through sustainable and effective programmes.
The Student Representative Council (SRC) of the University of the Free State (UFS) Bloemfontein campus, in the heart of our country, was established in 1909 and is one of the oldest structures of student governance in South Africa.
The SRC forms part of the UFS’s governing structures and ensures that the student body is represented in accordance with the Act on Higher Education. The SRC also forms part of the Central Student Representative Council (CSRC) which is a body comprised of student representatives from two of our campuses (Bloemfontein & Qwa-Qwa) and ensures that student’s interests across all our campuses are represented.
The SRC consists of 21 members with portfolio’s ranging from Culture to Environmental Affairs. We aim to embrace and promote all student’s interest at all possible levels at the UFS. In line with our values of accountability, integrity, respect, unity and excellence we strive to serve the student population of the UFS through promoting both the Academic and Human projects of the University.
The SRC does not only want to be a leader among the student leadership structures of universities in South Africa, but also wants to be recognised as one of the top leadership structures globally.
