What is ayahuasca?
Ayahuasca isn amazonian beverage and medicinal plant. It is made of two ingredients: the ayahuasca vine and the chakruna leaf. Its active ingredient is DMT, and therefore has hallucinogenic properties. It has been used for centuries as a healing, spiritual plant because, upon ingesting ayahuasca, your physical body is cleansed, as well as your thoughts and emotions. Ayahuasca provides a mirror into your soul and mind, allowing you to see things and understand yourself with greater clarity. It is highly effective against many maladies, including depression, fears, addictions and physical maladies as well.
How long does an ayahuasca ceremony last?
Usually from 9pm until 6am. Each dose of ayahuasca may last up to 4 hours and several cups may be served in one ceremony.
Is ayahuasca legal in Ecuador?
It most certainly is LEGAL in Ecuador, which is why many travelers come here to drink ayahuasca, since other countries have it classified as an illegal substance. In countries like Ecuador, Peru and Colombia, ayahuasca is protected as part of their national heritage.
Do ayahuasca retreats in Ecuador only serve ayahuasca?
No, some retreats will offer other types of plant medicine, such as San Pedro/wachuma, as well as Kambo (not a plant medicine)!
