Gonzales native and author, Todd-Michael St. Pierre, captures this love of fun and celebration in his storybook, Chicory and Roux: The Creole Mouse and The Cajun Mouse. Chicory the city mouse would never dream of leaving her home in New Orleans … until she falls asleep in a picnic basket and wakes up in the country swamps. There she meets Roux, a country mouse, and together they experience the simple Cajun life before returning to the big city for a taste of Creole culture.

Join us at Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales on Saturday, April 14, at
10:30 AM as Todd-Michael along with illustrator Lee Brandt Randall, and musician David Randall, presents a rollicking retelling of Aesop’s classic fable with puppets and song.

Their visit will be followed with a presentation by Insta-Gator Ranch & Hatchery. Come as close as you dare to two live alligators. For those who are a bit more timid, we will have a smaller gator, but for those of you who are a bit more brave, the Gator Greeter will let you get close to a 4 foot long alligator!

Finally, just as Chicory and Roux celebrate their love for their culture – and express that love through the foods they share – so do we. The Jambalaya Festival Association will provide lunch following this special Explore Your Heritage storytime.

Families and children of all ages are invited to participate in this free program which is a part of our Explore Your Heritage series and is co-sponsored by The Gonzales Committee on Cultural Affairs and The Jambalaya Festival Association.
