Wednesday April 11, the NJAG astronomy club meeting will feature Montclair State’s Dr. Rodica Martin speaking on Gravitational Waves and the LIGO Interferometers. She is a physicist who is part of the team which recently used gravitational waves (ripples in the geometry of space and time) to detect two neutron stars colliding deep in space. These observations resolve long-standing speculation about how heavy elements such as gold, silver and lead are produced. She helped to design and install various optical components of an upgrade to the LIGO detectors. Join us in the CELS science building in room 110 at the left in the atrium at Montclair State University at 8 PM.
